Three days in San Terenziano with the Queen of Street Food
SapereFood Editoral Staff
A real and truthful love declaration for this delight of the local gastronomy. During the three-day event – 13th – 14th 15th May 2016 – the top producers of porchetta will gather in San Terenziano di Gualdo Cattaneo (in the province of di Perugia). Porchetta is a speciality that has gained its fame through being one of the tastiest, oldest, and most popular dishes of the best Italian culinary tradition and, on this occasion, will be paired with artisanal beers selected by Fermento birra and the Strada del Sagrantino wines. A gastronomic journey that will take you from “crus” of Porchetta and from Umbria to Sicily, across Calabria and Sardina to reach the Porchettiamo&Friend section dedicated to street food, alongside music, walks and games.
A unique opportunity you cannot miss on. You can meet up with porchetta connoisseurs and savour this succulent dish together at the Festival of Italian Porchettas. Carefully selected producers will have their booths in the main square of this Umbrian hamlet, named the “The Square of Porchettas” throughout the event. Exhibitors and producers come from various regions - even regions that are not traditionally connected to this dish. They will gather in San Terenziano, so that you can actually compare some of the "top" productions of the Italian tradition.
The “In punta di Porchetta” section gets bigger. Starred chefs will once again move from their restaurant kitchen to the streets in order to prepare dishes inspired by porchetta and the “in porchetta” cooking technique. Hence, porchetta will be declined according to many territorial variations and according to the different tastes, and as many ingredients. Tradition and innovation, history and creativity dance together in the name of this delicious street food.
Porchettiamo’s mission is to make amateurs know and taste the best of the Italian porchetta production and much more. Porchetta will have good company. Many other unique flavours will come to feast it. Following the success of the last editions, “Porchettiamo&Friends” is having an increasing number of exhibitors. The sheep hamburger from Sardinia, the Lampredotto from Tuscuany, Pane e Panelle and Arancini from Sicily, Olive Ascolana, Porchetta balls and the local Ciccotto of Grutti (a Slow Food presidium) are coming to visit their friend the porchetta.
This extraordinary street food is going to be paired with the autochthonous and local wines of the Strada del Sagrantino that can be tasted at the Sagrantino Enoteque and with artisanal national and international beers at Birroteca Artigianale. Since everybody should enjoy porchetta, gluten free porchetta rolls will be available for people suffering from celiac disease. The organization worked in cooperation with the Italian Celiac Association of Umbria to this aim.
Finally, there will be no shortage of side activities. You can walk or ride a bike to discover the hidden paths in the area of Gualdo Cattaneo and its Castles, enjoy music, travelling shows, and let your children have fun with activities designed especially for them. Caravans have a dedicated green area at the entrance to the hamlet. Porchettiamo increasingly attracts the attention of the press and enthusiasts from across the Ocean. This year two groups of journalists will be participating to the event and will taste our products and our wines to get their fellow citizen better acquainted with our Territory and its Porchettas.
